Final Seminar – notes on final plenary session
1 June 2011, by Rupert
Notes from end of day plenary session: What should we do next?
- Connect universities and innovative schools nationally, because we’re in danger of being isolated and duplicating
- Exeter University and interested others should link with Transition. This is an emergent, heterarchical movement ripe for study
- Association of professional futurists; World future studies federation (civilizational); centres in Finland, Malta, Poland. The debate is active at the moment.
- Link to blog on seminar series website; Keri happy to act as point of contact
- 40 years into tech enhanced education; we should look into what has happened in the past and how to learn lessons?
- link with History Ed networks on this issue
- why aren’t we backcasting to 1985?
- we have access to a 100-strong conference space to explore this or other possibilities.
- counterfactuals show us that outcomes weren’t as expected, and this teaches us about how we plan. We see that the tools don’t drive the change – agency does. ditch technology fatalism
- let’s have a conference on this issue, looking at different experiences around the world, bringing in the political and cultural spheres.
- let’s link tools like backcasting to current commissioning and evaluation activities.
