Building Agency in the Face of Uncertainty

Here’s something that might be useful to groups or individuals who are thinking about the future, and who perhaps don’t find the prevailing orthodoxies regarding what’s coming next very useful or productive.
Current dominant stories of the future have particular roles for schools and educators, ones that people working in this sector might sometimes consider in conflict with their own priorities. But resisting these stories, or articulating different, more positive roles, is something that the events of this seminar series have suggested is easier said than done. The document below describes a technique – a thinking tool – that’s intended to support people to examine the way in which they imagine the future, and to help them consider adopting different stances towards it.
It’s intended to be useful: if you have any comments or changes you think would make it more useful, please let us know.
